I'm thinking of trying to plant a small food plot this year. Problem is we only have 40 acres of nothing but timber. Anybody know any variety that grows decent in little sunlight?
Contact your local Ag agent or Co Op extension office. The can recommend something for your soil type.
Try the QDMA website, http://www.qdma.com/forums/ Check the threads on Food Plots for Whitetails.
The guys, on the website, have a vast knowledge that will get you on the right track. For starters, check the soil PH where you would like to start food plots. Make sure that your PH is around 6.5 to 7.0. As far as what to grow in minimal sunlight, clover is probably your best bet. You'll need to have at least 6 hours of good sunlight to grow anything else. Good Luck.
If you own it make about a 3 AC. Food plot with good access am and pm. Sale the timber.
