Post by: Sampsta on March 07, 2013, 01:18:19 PM
So I picked up a Mossberg 500C 20 Ga for my son...nince one at Kittery Trading Post in ME. I wanted to know what choke and shell selection would be best for this gun......... It came with a XF and I tried #5 it did ok to 30 but i'd like to see if i can get 40yds out of it....

Any thoughts or suggestion

pm dawei from this site.  He has good info on the Mossberg 20 gauge guns that would be helpful for you.

A 562 and Federal HW #7s or H-13 #7s will smoke em out to 40. Even out of 570 or 575 and HTLs work.
For lead only get a Federal 3-1 5/16 #6 and your present choke and it may do to 40 but most likely 35 will stretch it.Then you can go to other chokes. I like Hastings and Sumtoy chokes personally in Mossy
20's.
For closer distance lead try the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant 3-1 1/4-7.5s . Ouch! to 30 .

I've had good luck with the 570-575 range of chokes with lead and HTL loads
