Post by: Deerstalker on March 06, 2013, 02:45:18 PM
1st year to hunt turkeys & would like pros & cons on hunting from a tree stand and/or should I stay on the ground.  Any other tips are more than welcomed.  Thanks

One con in Alabama is it will get you a ticket, illegal here.  I really can't think of any pro's to hunting turkeys from a stand.  I'd stay on the ground and mobile.

It is illegal in some states to hunt turkeys from an elevated stand.

Also, you miss out on the best part! Getting in there world and working a gobbler is the best part. I will admit I "deer hunt" turkeys on occasion if it is a slow day, I will just go to a location I know they travel and sit and wait. I don't like that near as much as going to a gobbling tom and working him though.

Stay on the ground in the shadows and good luck!

I agree with the others.

That said, I've sat in a stand before when it is right where a particular bird normally hangs out and there aren't any good shady options on the ground.
