Title: REM model 11
Post by: birdyhunter on March 04, 2013, 12:21:29 AM

Have an old model 11 with a fixed full choke that I'm letting my brother use for his first turkey season. I'm hearing good things about the federal fcw loads out of fixed chokes but is there anyone that can confirm this or offer any other suggestions?

The federal flight control would be your best choice for that gun, I assume you have a 2 3/4 inch chamber.  I have an old Remington Sportsman 58 with a fixed full and have killed several toms with the Federal FCW lead #6s in the days before the heavy load was available.  I would suggest that he try the federal heavy #7s for the most effective patterns, I would guess that gun with that load should be capable to nearly 40 yards with out a problem.

Thanks man, I will pick up a box today and see what she does. It was left to me by a man that was like a grandfather and I've shot it very little so it will be nice to get some use out of it.

My sportsman 58 was from an older man that lived next door to me growing up.  I went on my first turkey hunts with it as a teen and I still take it out sometimes for memory sake.  Enjoy hunting with the model 11!

The remington model 11 was my first shotgun a very, very long time ago. Lost it in a house fire. If it was my gun I would try the Federal Flite control in 5s or 6s!!! Bet it will work!!!

Guys thanks for the input! The man who left me the gun was very dear to me and I've always been a little shy about using it but after reading so many posts about using old guns and the special connection they brought to the hunt I decided to make it even more special by letting my older brother take his first tom with it. I hope to be sharing pictures with you all in a little less than 2 weeks!
