May be a stupid question, but figured I'd ask anyhow. In fixed choke barrels is it rough on the choke to shoot the magnum loads or copper plated shot? For example, the remington premier magnum 3 in shells that contain 2oz of copper plated shot. If it matters, I'm using a New England single shot with a three inch chamber. I'm wanting to try the remington premier magnums out of it or maybe the winchester double x 3in 2oz 5 shot.
The only reason I asked this question is this gun is very important to me, I killed my first turkey with it :)
Won't hurt it a bit. I have an NEF 28" Modified, and at 25 Yards it would be golden with 1.125 Ounces of Hard Lead #7.5's. 1.125 Ounce loads outpattern 1.25 Ounce loads for me.

Modern guns with fixed chokes are not affected by the relatively soft lead shot, even with copper or nickel plating.
When we were required to switch to non-toxic shot and the only alternative at that time was steel shot, several older full choked guns became more like modified after having a lot of those shells shot through them.
Gun makers now use harder steel and we have choke tubes on many of those guns as well that help to keep chokes what they were when they left the factory.
Thanks,
Clark
I have a H&R model 88 that I have shot the federal copper plated loads thru . I have also shot hevi 13 # 6 with no problems .
I have a old gun that was my Grandpaws, the gun is a bolt action 12 gauge with a fixed full choke. This gun had not been fired since 1976 and I wanted to kill a turkey with it so I got it from my Daddy. Patterned it with the 3 inch Federal Heavyweights with flite control wad 6s it shot awesome and I killed two turkeys with it that year. Now she sits in the back of MY safe!!! May just have to do it again!!!
My NEF is as light as a feather. I sure wish it had a Full choke, instead of Modified.
Try some of the new Hornady turkey loads, they are by design meant to be used without turkey chokes. Your modified is exactly what they suggest you use...
I haven't heard of anybody having good results with the Hornady loads. Federal flight control may be your best bet.
don't waste your money on the hornady junk
get some Federal FCW shells and try through the modified choke,I think you will be surprised
