Been doing a lot of reading about deep cleaning the barrel of a shotgun to get better patterns. From what I have found online it doesn't seem like anyone had a extreme improvement with pattern so my question aimed to you guys is have any of you had a extreme improvement post deep cleaning and I don't mean you got a extra ten pellets in the ten. I mean night and day difference. Just curious.
For me there was a noticeable difference(835). I went from an OK pattern to slightly above average. One thing I learned here on OG how to get optimum performance out of my rig. If you haven't done it yet,it's really not hard. Do a before cleaning shot, and after cleaning shot (take pics). Post em up. If I were to guess, you would see a change for the better.

I went up 20% in my patterns with 20 gauge. I was running around 108 - 112 before and now I am averaging 135.
I am going to deep clean all of my turkey guns from now on.
Deep cleaning your barrel will give you a 10%-15% increase in your pattern totals and it costs you practically nothing but a couple of extra minutes with your gun. If you are looking for EXTREME improvement you can polish the barrel (if it is not chromed), have your forcing cone extended and/or work on a choke tube/shell combination that performs best in your particular gun. These last three steps are more costly, but you have to be the judge of how much you want to spend in pursuit of the optimal pattern.
BTW, you will not believe how much crud comes out of what you might have considered to be a clean barrel when you deep clean it.

by polishing the barrel I get more consistant patterns, not a huge bump in pattern density or numbers but I like to know that my shot to shot is the same so that in the field I hammer the birds as hard as the peice of paper and cardboard I shoot in practice.
I've never overkilled a turkey, but I dont mind trying :z-guntootsmiley: :newmascot:

Not all guns like a deep cleaned barrel, i deep cleaned mine and the patterns went to crap and i had to shoot it about 7 or 8 times to get it back where it needs to be
