Title: My new Cox trumpet +1
Post by: savduck on February 28, 2013, 08:21:08 PM
I got my Frank Cox coco and ivory trumpet in the other day. He did a great job and it sounds excellent. I also got a trumpet from a call maker I met while attending the Orangburg NWTF banquet that Ricky Padgett of Spring Allure Turkey Calls invited me to. The call makers name is John Dangerfield II. He makes one hell of a little yelper. John can purr on a trumpet. It is something else to hear.

Ken, I'd recommend getting one. I think he is gonna be big time. This yelper runs like a dream.

The boy is about as humble as they come, I got one of the same ones on the way. He loves call making and is a great guy to talk to.....got a tube coming from him as well. Del you and I might be hunting with him opening weekend if all plays right from what I talked to him about tonight.

Shazam....I'll be there with bells on.

I'm telling you he is gonna be the next big thing in trumpets when a few of these get out. It is an EXCELLENT yelper. He is very humble. Get him to purr for you. It's unreal.

Ricky I hope you let him know how much I liked it.

I told that you loved it.....He said he was humbled and just wanted to get them out and get some honest feedback on them....he said getting them into hunters hands were what he was after not letting them sit on a shelf and collect dust. I told him heck yea! That's the spirit!!

Awesome looking trumpets that are full of turkey. My best friend has run a Cox trumpet for the last decade and it is chock full of turkey. I got my first Cox trumpet last summer and absolutely love it, even though I am not as well versed as many of you are on them. I'm still learning. Thanks for sharing.

Those both are very nice trumpets Del. Thanks for posting John Dangerfield's phone number. I talked to  him several days ago and he has started to make me a Cherry Burl trumpet. He says it should be ready in about 2 weeks. He sure can do some great turkey Purrs and gobbles on that horn too.

Your welcome. It's something else with those purrs.

You will enjoy that trumpet. Very easy draw on it.

I know Frank has a reputation for "speaking his mind"  or " calling it the way it is "  it tends to cause trouble sometimes , I reluctantly admit  it is sometimes entertaining , but back to the subject -a  long time ago , in a galaxy far far away I talked to Frank on the phone , I knew he had a reputation for making a excellent trumpet , I wanted to see how good of a caller he was ....

I will say this , no BS honest assessment .... over the years I have had many a turkey hunter and  call maker run a trumpet for me - out all the people I have ever heard, seen , in person ,on line , youtube , phone, etc.... and some were some very, very good callers   , Frank Cox was clearly the best caller I have ever heard , ever on a trumpet - he is very good , kee-kees , yelps etc... the best trumpet caller I have ever heard , period . --Shannon

Yeah he is pretty good.

I actually talked with him quite a bit during the building of my trumpet. I have had some pretty entertaining conversations with him. I like the guy, he has been nothing it good to me.

[/quote]Shannon, I agree with you totally. The man can flat out talk turkey on that trupet. I have played his video so many times as to get the right tone and cadance of his kee-kees,yelps etc. It flat out rocks.
