Been searching for some Hevi-13 #7s but haven't been able to find any locally, so I picked up a box of Mag Blends (3.5") this morning.
Taped off 40 yards and shot at a 6' x 6' piece of cardboard.
Decent pattern, pretty even with no apparent holes.
Best 10" circle had 177 hits in it.
This on par with what you guys are seeing with mag blends? Or am I lacking?
Some are getting better numbers, but that is a very huntable pattern!
Sounds good to me
This was my first time trying any HTL.
I was really impressed, I have been using stock chokes and lead shells since I started.
Can't wait to try some straight 7s.
thats about what i get out of my 835 with 20'' barrel
Sounds like the .655 is too tight for those 3.5" Mag Blends. I'd recommend something in the .670 range such as a Kick's or a Jellyhead. You'll see 200+ pellets in the 40 yard 10 inch circle then.

Indian Creek .665 is right for the Magblends. 180-210 with the 3" 2 Ounce shells.
And the .670 (Kick's or Jellyhead) woud be the ticket for the 3.5 inch loads. :OGturkeyhead:
I bought the .655 for the HS 7s, just thought I'd try some MBs since they were available locally and see what they'd do.
The .655 is the IC diameter of choice for 7s right? Least that's what everyone recommended...
I'm shooting an sx3 now but use to use a sx2 I'm shooting the same choke, it averaged180-200 with hevi #6 but all I use any more are # 7 hevi and average out at 290 to 315 as a high.
I shoot a SX3 with a Kicks .670 and 3" MagBlends and get 253@40. I don't see the need for me to shoot 3.5s. I have disc problems in my neck so I like the lighter recoil. But if you can handle the recoil that's great. I shot a .665 I.C. choke and got 220. .655 is to tight IMO and you may get better patterns with a bigger diameter choke.
Lacking. You're overchoked.
Seen it go 220-235 many times in multiple guns.
Don't know why I posted .655, I have the Indian Creek .665 choke.
In that case the Kick's 670-675 is what you need with that load. :z-winnersmiley:
Hevi 13 and #7's will be great for your IC .665. My SX3 and IC .665 like #7's way better than mag blends. :anim_25:
Thanks.
Found a local guy that can order HS.
Should have a couple boxes of 7s next week to try.
I am learning, but I thought with straight 7s you loose range compared to 5s or 6s but gain pellets. So wouldn't make sense that if you shoot the blend you get less pellets because they are less pellets in the shell. Just asking. I have not picked my load or choke yet, still waiting for gun to arrive.
You can kill with Hevi 7's a long way.
They hit about like lead 5's.

I don't concern myself with >40 yard performance too much. I hunt in the mountains, even a 40 yard shot would be a pretty long poke for me.
We have some pretty good size fields one about 4ac so 40 yards can go pretty quick. I am looking at it as bow range hunting.
Mag Blends at 180-210 is plenty good at 40 Yards. 300 hits is more impressive, but not really any more effective. With 300, I'd open up my choke and get a bigger, more forgiving pattern.
