Im shooting a 535 with factory xxfull (LEAD ONLY)670 choke and cant break 100 @ 40 yards. Barrel has been polished and deep cleaned. I have spent way to much money on shells trying to find lead that will break a 100 @40 yards. Patterns are good at 30 yards but it really drops off after that. ... So i just ordered a truglo SSX. Im going to buy some Hevi 13's. Ill Prob try mag blends and Hevi #6's. Anyone use this combo? Any other shells i should try? Ill post some pattern pics when the choke arrives.
I have a Mossy 535 and Dad has a Mossy 500. Both like a Jellyhead .660. My 535 is a thumbhole with a 20" barrel and camo. LOVE to hold it, but it doesn't pattern as well as my Dad's 500 with a 28" barrel. Yesterday, we patterned a little and then shot some skeet. With lead, my 535 can only break 100 with 3.5" shells ( I only shoot #5 shot in lead) and that is only with a Jellyhead. Dad's Mossberg 500 shot 146 hits in 10 inches at 40 yds, shooting hevi-13 3"-2oz-#6. That was a good, even pattern too. After his shot, i took the Jellyhead and shot the same hevi round out of my 535 and got 104 hits at 40 yds.
A 535, SSX, and Hevi13 #7, #6, or Magnum Blend will easily break 100 for you.
Don't stress out too much, you're almost there. Clean your barrel really well before you pattern.
If i can break 100 eveytime i will be a happy camper :thanks:
