Title: BPS 12 gauge - Chrome Lined or Not?
Post by: JUGHEAD on February 20, 2013, 09:52:49 PM
I've got a pal's barrel in my garage and he's wanting it polished.  Before I went to work on it, I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not it was chrome lined?  I've only ever polished barrels on Remingtons and Mossbergs and don't want to mess his gun up.

Best I can tell from their website they are not. A few of their guns have chrome lined chambers but the BPS is not one of them. I polished the barrel on my new BPS the other day and there is no way crud like that will come from a new chrome lined barrel.

jughead;  I own a bps 10 gauge. Yesterday I went to a gunsmith and ask him to finish polishing the forceing cone started by another gunsmith. First question he ask was why I had it removed. He didn't look very happy as he looked at it. Then he told me it was a crome lined barrel. He tried polishing it but could not. I would ask Browing to be absolutley sure if its crome.             cluck

If mine isn't, it came plenty shiny from the factory.   ;D

The owner of the gun says he called Browning and they told him that it had a "mirror finish" but that it is not chrome lined.  I didn't know it, but he already polished it once last year so if that didn't screw it up, I don't guess my doing the same will.

Browning makes some of the finest production barrels on shotguns, nearly "0" or mirror finish. They also are concentric from the forcing cone to the choke tube shoulder. There's really not much, other than deep cleaning, that you can do to improve one but they aren't chrome-lined.

Browning chambers are susceptible to rust and special care should be take to keep them protected.

Thanks,
Clark

Thank you Clark. That should be cleaned up quickly and decisevly. Not chrome lined. No way.
