Title: Lead 7's
Post by: jlsprouls on February 18, 2013, 06:08:11 PM
Anybody use something smaller than 6's in lead? Would it have the energy needed at 35-40 yards?

I do have some 7.5s in nickel plated lead from Fiocchi. See Golden Pheasant loads. Most shots are 30 and under for me so this shot works well. If I plan on 35-40 yard shots it is generally Federal #6s in lead or HTL #7s.

Lead 7s @ 1200 fps have the energy to kill to 42 yds. Lead 7.5s at the same speed will do it to 36 yds (1.25" gel penetration).

I haven't ever used anything smaller in lead than 6's but this year I hope to nail one with my 410 and it will be using 7.5 lead under 25 yards.
