Title: No turkey hunting shows on TV?
Post by: dawgfrombama on March 04, 2011, 10:03:16 PM
You would think with turkey season right around the corner that there would be more shows on tv.  All I see is bear hunting right now.  I shouldn't complain because noone on tv hunts turkeys like I do.  I mean I don't use a blind and a "pretty strutter" decoy or whatever the latest decoy is.

dawgfrombama I agree; I never use decoys and I carry my own video camera and try to film and hunt at the same time. Plus I hunt on about 4000 acres of private and westvaco land along with about 6 other guys. We have a limited about of birds on the club and seems like everyone knows where the gobblers are. One guy hunts 6 days a week and usually kills only 2 birds a season. He sets in a tent and calls and calls and calls until he either gets tired of sitting there or until the gobbler hangs up. Thats not hunting that still hunting. Just my opinion :-)

One of the channels (Sportsman I think) said next two saturdays are all turkeys.

I'm afraid there is a generation of turkey hunters growing up now that have no idea how to turkey hunt.  The shows today that feature turkey hunting make it seem like you have to have a blind, a comfortable chair and a pack of decoys to kill a turkey...in a field. ::)

Raspy D you took the words out of my mouth.. I have been saying your first line for a few years now. Its even worse in states such as my own where there is no "tradition" No grand daddies that turkey hunted and passed on the tradition..

But as to the original question.. You can go to the Pursuit Channels website and watch a library of shows, some of the more turkey hunting related ones.

Turkey Thugs
MO Obsession Revealed
NWTF Turkey Call
Blood Brothers TV

RaspyD i agree well I took it up from my uncle and he never took but one call to the woods did not even have a vest. Just a mouth call and all camo up and he called  them up for other people and killed more turkeys than anyone I now. Most years he would not take but 1 or 2 big toms and he would take kids and different people and let them get a few each

If only I had one more day to hunt with him I would give anything.

I don't use decoys either and don't intend to.As for sitting all day in a blind,I don't have that kind of patience.Reminds me of deer hunting, which I could care less for. But,I guess at least in the spring, you aren't freezing your butt off.
