Some friends got to meet Rev Farmer at an NWTF banquet last weekend and he give them a little demonstration with one of his yelpers. Here is a short clip. You can get an idea of his sound.

Did he by chance have a flat mouthpiece, like a wingbone, on his trumpet?

I'll post the longer version of it after I download it. That was the tail end of about 5 minutes of calling.

Barry his calls have an angled round with a notch cut out of it. It looked to me that he uses his tongue in some fashion on that notch. His jaw never dropped the entire time he ran it.
