Title: Is a fixed 4x too much magnification?
Post by: Ltsheets on February 10, 2013, 09:28:33 PM
Just ought a TC turkey gun. I have a leupold fixed 4x I'm considering mounting on it. Do you guys think a fixed 4x is too much magnification?

First off  :welcomeOG:

I think it would limit my FOV too much personally. I would much prefer an open red dot or either a low powered variable in the 1-4x range.

However, you already have it - mount it and see. Doesn't hurt to try one you already have! It would definitely let you pick where you wanted to shoot him - which waddle or which eye...

Thanks for the welcome!  I'm really excited for my first season turkey hunting. I've really heard that its addicting. Thanks for the advice on the scope. Anyone else have any thoughts?

For me the 4x scope I had was too much under 20 yards.  40 yards was perfect for me.

I'd go with no magnification way before I'd go with 4x...these birds aren't really tough to see at 40 yards, ya know?  And ya ain't shootin' a single projectile...

I used a 4x scoped Mossy 500 for several years. I never had any problems. I use a FastFire now, but when all I had was 500 with a scope, that worked just fine. It may not be the best choice, but it's not an unusable choice.
