Title: Speed Bead?
Post by: Hardtime_NC on February 10, 2013, 08:51:18 PM
Which would be better for a turkey gun?  Speed bead or picatinny mounting.

Thanks

I prefer the picatinny mount personally but if you use the same gun for water fowl or upland then the speedbead is a better option.  It sits much lower than the pic mount.

I have a Speed Bead on my primary turkey gun (870) and I really like it. I mounts low enough that if the battery ever went out on you while hunting you could still use the factory bead(s) in a pinch.

With the speed bead, you mount the gun as you always do and there is the red dot.  With a picatinny rail, you will have to raise your head to see the dot.  Not a big deal unless your battery dies - in which case you are just guessing.  The rail does provide options for a scope and not a red dot - so there's that.

But for a red dot, speed bead in my opinion.  Have one on  my Xtrema-2, but have a rail o my SP-10 - but only because they don't make a speed bead (can you hear me Burris>>??)
