Title: Federal Strut-Shok - Non-heavyweight loads
Post by: double drops on February 10, 2013, 01:54:37 PM
I'm looking for some input on the Federal Strut Shok shells.  These are not the heavyweight kind and not the ones with the flite control wad, but the ones that are around $10 per box at Wal-Mart.  Have any of you tried these?  I'm getting ready to try patterning a few different loads out of my 870 and am thinking about giving these a try.  Any input would be much appreciated.

Yep, I was shooting the 12ga 3.5 inch #6 loads, worked great, but then I found the HW #7 and they worked double great! If I had to use the Strut Shok loads I would feel comfortable using them, don't remember what my pellet count was, but I know any turkey inside 40 yards was dead.

Tested some last year. The 3" actually shot better than the 3.5" #6's in my gun. At a lasered 40 with a 24" barreled maxi mag with a .660 jellyhead it put 141 in the 10" with the 3-1 7/8-6. We tested around 6 guns and they did pretty well over all. I would have no problem hunting with them at all.
