Hi all, a nooby to this site, but i've been a turkey nut for a lotta years. Well I finally retired my trusty old A-5 and bought me a new Versamax Rem. I've tried a couple of loads with the T-choke that came with the gun, a Rem. heavy 13 tube. The results have been medeocre at best, 100 or so in a 10" @40 yds, with win #4's, #5's were about the same. Has anybody come up with a tube /shell combination for the v-max that they dont mind sharing, that shoots a little tighter? Not alotta info on this gun yet. thanks
I'd say 100 in 10" at 40 yds w/lead 4s is an outstanding pattern for that load. If you're lookin for more hits, try hevi 6 or 7s or just lead 6s. Good luck.
Shooting some type of HTL load will help and a new choke will help that much more. PM Sumtoy on here he's a choke builder and I'm sure he has a good one for that gun. As for your numbers with lead fours that's a good pattern. If I wanted to shoot 4s I would be happy with it.
I hope all is well and you enjoy your new purchase. I purchased a choke, labeled 667, from William @ Sumtoy when he first started working a combination for that gun and it works really well with Heavy type 6's and lead 4 / 5's. With the Remington supplied turkey choke I was getting 110-120's with copper plated lead which I thought was good, but i'm a novice at this.
Good luck with your season.

Now that gun likes 660 to 670 rang. You have a few chokes to pick from. We tested one other day and it 220's with 6's and 280's with the 7's.. Now The lead will kill him dead. If you want to kill paper and have stuff to look at that makes you go WoW get the HTL and kill paper & turkeys. :anim_25:
