I just got a Albert Paul Box Call and Im very impressed with how easy
It is to play this call
I had a long talk with him on the phone about what wood would be good
To use , And the place that I do most of my hunting . he gave me some
Types of wood that's good and what he used and had real good luck with .
So we decided on a all Walnut ............
And Man O Man can this box make some Turkey Talk

Does he sell his calls at the NWTF convention? I know I've seen him there, but thought someone said one time that you could just try them out and had to order them. Is this the case or are they for sale at the convention? thanks

I don't know about NWTF convention
When I made a order he said it'll take at least 2weaks ..

He has a few that you can call on but he usually just takes orders at the Convention.

Joe, you need to post up a pic of all your Paul's calls.

Do you mean these pics? I have 4 more that were not in this pic. I also had Albert fix the paddle on the one that was chewed up by our lab pup. I am also on the list for his LE. My earliest one is a 1992. It was some of his firsts.

That's the one. I love the Royal Slam LE's!
Albert is a good man!
I have one of his boxes and I thought it just sounded average to me.
I hear he is the nicest man, and makes a heck of a call- Shannon

He is as good as they come!
After 13 years that was a while back I had a problem with his call. He said send it back, a few weeks later when I got home there was a package from Albert Paul. he took care of the problem, I called him to see how much it cost. He said no charge, and that was after 13 years. He is on good honest person.

Albert is one of the nicest guys I have ever known.
I think the key is that he grew up listening to birds, 100's if not 1000's of live birds.
He hunts all over, and knows what calls work for a given location and/or situation.
I hunt Nebraska most years. Many calls can't cover the distance, and cut the wind, and appeal to the Heinz 57 birds that are moving all around these days. I asked him to make me a hybrid call for Nebraska, 2007 or 2008 I think. Took awhile. I check in, and he said the first call just didn't sound right, so he started over. That persimmon & maple call goes with me everywhere. I carry it on the plane when I fly. It has worked so many times when other calls did not, that I just have no choice but to keep it close :)
I only have 3, but I want 10+.....

That's awesome. I'm gonna ask a stupid question about a Paul call, but how's it sound? Does it have another wood laminated on the underside of the lid to give it more weight?

The call is solid and heavy, all holly, and the sound is rich and full. Great for calm days, close up work, and anytime you want a slightly lower pitch than a lighter wood....
mudhen
That's awesome. Congrats on an outstanding call
Will he play them over the phone if ya want?
Last year I hunted with a buddy who has a Poplar & Walnut Albert Paul call. Its was as good as it gets and we did well with it. I bought each of my sons one for Christmas this year. They are really really good calls and Mr Paul was good to deal with...not sure why I didnt get one for myself.
Mudhen
I had Albert make me a all Holly this spring.
Great sounding call and it is just beautiful..
Looking forward to using it this coming year.
He makes a good one for sure.
:icon_thumright:
Mine, according to my boxcall making hunting buddy, is the best sounding box call he's heard.
He told me that "they don't come better sounding than that".
And yes, it's very easy to run.
I've got 3 myself. Walnut over cedar that saw a good season this year, walnut over mahogany, and one of the snakewood over holly that Mike Battey commisioned him to build for his WildTalker series. All fine calls and as already said, you won't find a better fella to deal with. Probably be looking for another, but can't make up my mind if I want walnut over poplar or the Henry Davis, ebony over holly.
