Title: Adding Optics to Daughter's Mossberg Bantam 20g
Post by: MP15TDriver on January 30, 2013, 09:40:14 PM
I'm looking to add some optics to my daughters' 20g Mossberg Super Bantam(s).  They are 12 yo and 14 yo (yes, two daughters and two guns to outfit).

I would like to simplify the targeting process by mounting a red dot, but I'm not sure which one to get and which mount to use.

The Mossberg Super Bantam (500) is pretapped with mounting screws (4 total) along the receiver.

I've been considering the Fastfire III for my gun, and wondering if I should go to that extreme on their guns.

Another consideration--the Super Bantams also have a 24" rifled barrel that they may use this coming fall for their first deer season.  I might mount a scope to the gun during that season, so I'm wondering if I should use some kind of interchangeable mount.

Basically, which red dot optics would you recommend and mount for a Super Bantam?

Signed,
Newbie

I put my FF2 on my daughters so I could get a FF3. :)

I used the Marlin 336 mounting base.

Good but of money to outfit all 3 of your guns though.

I used to have a 500 that I had a scope on, sighted for slugs and the slug barrel. I just changed barrels for turkey season and the scope sighting stayed the same. Made things easy.

At a moment of weakness  ;), I went ahead and ordered (3) Fastfire III's (and protectors).  I'm looking forward to getting them mounted on the guns.

I think you will be pleased. I have a FFII on my daughters and it did great. I'd advise on using dove loads to practice with, and sight in the 3" shells yourself. Let the daughters use the dove loads to practice with, and slip in a 3" shell when you hunt. The Bantum packs a whallop using Hevi Shot 3" shells even on me.

Your daughter will love the FF3.  My 11 year old has been using the FF2 for 2 years now and has made some surprising shots with it.  It's just so simple for her and she's able to get her cheek down on the stock which is important for the little ones.
