Title: South Dakota public land turkey
Post by: Turkeyman11 on January 21, 2013, 08:16:35 PM
Hey everybody.  After years of questions from my brother-in-law about why I waste my time turkey hunting he finally drew a tag here in Utah last year.  I took him out and one hour later we were packing a nice two year old gobbler back to the truck.  Well, needless to say he has the bug.  He wants me to travel to South Dakota with him this spring.  He has family that lives in White Wood.  I haven't done any research yet, but I thought I would start by asking if any members here know of any good public land hunting near there?  National Forests, etc.  Thanks in advance.

I hunted on state land in the Cottonwood, Philip, and Kadoka areas last May. 5 of us hunted there for a week. We all got birds. Look into the Buffalo Gap National Grass Lands. There is plenty of public land to hunt on there. It was a great trip, saw plenty of turkey, mule deer, pronghorn, ringnecks, and coyote.
