Went shed hunting today with a buddy at the farm i hunt. This is the first decent shed I have ever found. I was excited to see a good one made it through hunting season. This shed was maybe 30 yards from my stand. Then my day got worse. about 150 yards further we found a sick buck. Poor fella was bleating and gasping for air.I had the shotgun but though I should call the Conservation dept. first. He got there about 30 minutes later with a State police officer . They rode on the tail gate of my truck to where the buck was laying. He told me it was EHD. He then shot it and ended his suffering. They didn't want their pics taken and posted on the internet but offered to take our pic.Sorry my buddy wasn't looking at the camera. Broken, cracked, deformed hooves are a sure sign of EHD. Hooves looked like they had been stuck on a grinding wheel.

You can see how emaciated he was.

Loved to have seen that dude walking by my stand. Boom boom out go the lights...
That is a GREAT shed, hope he makes it to next year. Sorry to hear about the EHD that is wicked stuff.
Wess
I'm really surprised he lived that long. We're still pulling them out of the creeks and rivers in SW MI. Scored one last week that measured 160" and a 21" inside spread. My friend that found him has a pic of him standing with his tongue hanging out in Sept, found him about 2 weeks later in the creek. The pic was taken at our annual end of season card game, hence the bottle used for proportions.

I hears you boys in that part of the state got hit a lot harder than we did.Crying shame. That's a dandy buck for sure
Red I sure hope that shed you found is not from the buck you found.
