I received a garmin Dakota 20 as a Christmas gift and so far I am pretty impressed as far as the acquisition time and how accurate the digital compass is. For the Garmin users here, what maps do you recommend ? I was looking into subscribing to birdseye satellite imagery service but read alot of bad reviews on it. Does anybody here have any experience with birdseye or any other maps you have down loaded from garmin ? I am getting ready to start plotting potential turkey locations for spring and figured this could be a useful tool.
Thanks,
I recently got the Garmin 550t and had every intention of getting Birdseye view but after using the unit this past deer season I found that I really did not need it. The maps that where per loaded where more than sufficient for me. The unit also showed where the wildlife area borders where as well. I believe that the same maps are loaded on your unit as well. I would suggest using it in the Feild before you purchase Birdseye. Enjoy and have a great season
what kind of gps are these do you use them on the road as well or just for in the woods
It's a hand held that I only use for hunting. I found this website yesterday http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php I down loaded a topo map of Louisiana and will try loading it on a micro SD card. I think I will hold off on birdseye as well. I think I will get more use out of the topo map. My Dakota 20 only came with a standard map, doesn't show terrain changes. But i can down load maps to it.
