Title: Opinions on 1911s wanted
Post by: marshboy on January 12, 2013, 01:09:25 PM
Thinking of purchasing a Ruger 1911 45.
Does anyone own one, or have opinions?
Thanks,
Greg

I have a Remington, and no complaints.  The Rugers are much harder to get.

Check out Rock Island Armory's 1911 .45's. They are affordable and get really good reviews. I think I am going to buy one very soon.

The Rock Island is an awsome gun for the money. I love my Springfield Mil-Spec. Its the best pistol I have ever shot.

I have seen only two since their introduction.  Everyone tells me the same thing that they are hard to find.  This should tell you something of their popularity.

My experience with 1911s is you get what you pay for. Not saying spend a fortune but if its a cheaper made model you can usually turn them into a much better gun by changing the springs and barrel with good replacement parts. Usually for $150 or less.

The Rugers were in high demand before people ever saw them or handled them in person.  It has consistently stayed that way too.  Some people have had to wait months before getting one.  As soon as I found out that they weren't available right then, I moved on to the Remington.

Ruger has a rabid group of fans, and apparently Remington can build them faster.

I've got a Rock Island 1911 a-1 in .45 and love it, price is affordable, accuarcy is superb and the mill work on these guns is outstanding. I run 150 rds thru mine at the range at a time at never have had problems with jamming or cycleing, I put mine up against any Colt,  check them out.

I have a Springfield 1911 and wouldn't trade it for anything. I would say springfield or a Kimber.
