I have a brother inlaw with lots of guns and a gun safe is just too heavy for his house floor.
So, I was thinking. What about a chest freezer? Plenty of room for guns and rifles and lots of ammo.
I doubt a thief would waste time breaking into a freezer...just a thought.
we keep feed in them and they are mouse proof, don't know if I want any of my guns in there, pretty easy to break into or just carry off. you can always block the floor with cinder blks or put in a garage on a slab floor
I seen a converted refrigerator just the other day on tv. If its in a garage you can just turn it around with the door against the wall. That way it looks as though its empty and your making sure kids dont play in it.
By the time the anti's get done with us and Obama leaves the White House, we'll probably all have to build bank type vaults with time locks to store our guns. Requires a 30 minute delay before opening, so you'll have time to think about whether or not you really want to shoot the guy on crystal meth that is currently attacking your wife. :)

Go to Home Depot and get Eye-Bolts (big ones) , some lockable cable lock or heavy duty bike type lock , and some large masonry drill bits and install the Eye-bolts into the floor of your closet or wherever - the more bolts the better -- this will make it harder for someone to try and extract /wind them out with the lock on them - when people break into a house they want to get in and get out real quick , they wont have 1 hour or more to unscrew bolts
If you are in a rented apartment peel back a corner of carpet in your closet to install the bolts , when your lease is up , pull out the bolts and roll back the carpet - and your done
Also , MasterLock Python locks are great for this application - I keep a python lock in my truck while hunting and run the cable through the barrel.... out the action and wrap it around the base of the car seat - this keeps people from breaking into your car in camp , or while roosting birds in the afternoon
a quick search on ebay yielded this item but there will probably be other types of bolts that are more theft resistant

you can run the cable lock down the barrel or through the trigger assembly - the more eye bolts in your foundation the better , same for a big , big cable - Shannon
What about a Stack on gun cabinet. Mine is metal, locks, and is bolted to the floor and into the wall studs. Doesn't weight very much either. A chest freezer would take me a short time to get in. Mine isn't perfect, but it sill take a little work to get into. Lets face it if they know you have guns and thats what they are after they will get them. A guy on another forum lost his weapons after the crooks cut his safe open with a chop saw they brought.
This is the one I have. Getting too small now as I acquire more weapons, but they do make them bigger.

If you want to use a freezer I'd make sure you had a bunch of Dessicant in it. Freezers have a habit of holding in moisture and that will rust you guns.
Quite a few gun safes have air dryer systems in them for that very reason.
