Title: Choke/ammo recommendations for 1997 Ithaca 12 ga Turkeyslayer ????
Post by: Mike Honcho on December 10, 2012, 10:52:24 AM
Anyone have ideas/recommendations for chokes for my Ithaca Turkeyslayer?  I will most likely shoot  3" Hevi13
or Mag Blends.   Would also like to hear any good lead recommendations as well. Thanks in advance.

The chokes that most of my readers have had the best results with in Ithaca guns are the Wright's limited production turkey chokes.

They are non-ported, with crowned muzzles, 1.3" of parallel section and made from ETD 150 PH steel. With Hevi-13 shells, including Magnum Blend, the .660 exit diameter works well.

If I were going to shoot lead shells, I'd have to go with the White Lightning shells. That's be best lead load on the market today, in my experience.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks Clark!  Where can a person buy the Wright's chokes?

They are limited production items but you can check with Wright's directly at http://wrightsgunsmiths.com/index.html

I have a few as well.

Clark:  Here is the photo of the factory choke tube that is in my King's Ferry built Ithaca 37 12ga Turkeyslayer.

Can you tell if it is Tru Choke or WinChoke/Invector from the photo?

I've sent you a PM with a suggestion. Your gun should be threaded for Tru-Choke but in the picture that choke looks more like it has Win-Choke threads.

Thanks,
Clark

Please see my comments and the pictures below. When I compared your picture to the pictures I took of both Tru-Choke and Win-Chokes, I believe your is a Tru-Choke. That would also correspond with the mfg. date.

This may be of help to you.

Left: Tru-Choke                    Right: Win-Choke

You should be able to tell which one you have. Comparing the pictures, yours looks like a Tru-Choke.

Thanks,
Clark

Mine does well with a Tru-Lock.670 choke and Hevi-13 3" 2oz #7's, or #6's.
It also did well with a Indian Creek .665 choke and Hevi-13 3" 2oz #6's or #7's, and Winchester Elite 1.75oz #6's.

Forgot to mention mine has Winchoke threads.
