OK PAST FEW YEARS BEEN AFTER A BOSS GOBBLER I HAVE IDEA WHAT TREES HE AND HIS HENS GET IN BUT I DONT KNOW IF I SHOULD HUNT ONE SIDE OF CREEK OR OTHER SIDE CREEK DONT KNOW WHERE THE HENS TAKEIN HIM TO. ONE SIDE OF CREEK GOES TO A FLAT AREA THEN UP A HARWOOD HILL OTHER SIDE CREEK HAS LOTS OF PINES AND GOES UP INTO A GAS LINE 300 YARDS AWAY TRIED HUNTING HIM ON GAS LINE HENS WILL NOT COME OUT TO GAS LINE ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE GREAT FOR THIS SPRING 2013 :turkey2:
Hunt the side he fly's down to from the roost.
I almost always try to get as close to the roost as I can without spooking them. When in doubt stop and see what he wants to do once he is on the ground.
I hunted (I think) the same gobbler several times one spring. He roosted in a very large Oak tree right on the creek bank. Which ever side of the creek I set up on he flew down on the other side. I was as quite as I could be going in and some mornings I wouldn't even call. I had the hens fly down right in front of me but that gobbler always flew to to other side of the creek. He would hit the ground gobbling and going away. I saw him come out of the tree several mornings, sometimes he would pitch down right under his roost. Most of the time he would fly so far you could barely hear him gobble. I never did any good with that guy but he sure provided me with some fun hunts.
I Hunt a bird one time,if he will not play I leave him alone untill later in the season and then I go back and hunt him again with better results most of the time.
Try again late morning or afternoon.
Easiest answer is to say I'd be on the same side of the creek that you think he's on....I wouldnt want to count on him trying to cross it, to get to me, if I didnt have to.
In any case, if you know he's got hens with him, your best bet is probably going to be to go hunt him when they leave him during mid-day. I'd also spend some time before the season scouting to see where they prefer to head after they get off the roost.
Try an afternoon hunt and wait for him to come home.

u have to get where he is then you can find out what him and the hens are doing after fly down
When hunting a turkey in a field, I have noticed that they almost always fly from the roost to the west so that the sun isn't in their eyes and they can watch for predators better that way. I do not know if this is the same for timber but it may be something to think about.
