Title: Same Buck?
Post by: guesswho on November 25, 2012, 05:54:32 PM
I'm sure the picture from 1/12 is the same deer as from 11/12.  Do you think the picture from 08 is the same buck?

The shape of the antlers is unique enough to suspect that all of the pictures may be of the same deer.  I am a little puzzled by the extra point on the left side on this years rack, since the deer looks old enough in last years picture that I would have thought he would have his full compliment of points already.  However, even so, the shape on all three suggests it could very well be the same animal.

Hard to say for sure, but it may be!   Good luck if you are bowhunting him.

I believe it's the same deer.
Overlooking the mass, width and tine length he gained as he aged, the main beams appear to still grow in the same way (shape/direction) every year.

The markings on the insides of his legs and belly hair also look to match very closely.

Antlers can be poor identifiers by themselves.  They grow a new set every year.  The progression looks logical in this case so it's a pretty good bet.

In this case, you have pictures of the live deer.  Throat patch and white marks around the muzzle don't change much at all from year to year but can be very unique to a particular deer.  They look identical in 08 an 12 picts.

If these pictures were all taken in the same general area, I'd say highly likely it is indeed the same deer.

Don't know. I see the outline of a good set of antlers on the second buck in the third pic.
