My buddy and I got these 2 pups this past weekend. They will be trained to flush turkeys.
They are English Setter/ Wachtelhund (German Spaniel) cross.

nice. any names yet? It's not lawful here in Arizona to use dogs on turkey. Just curios I train GSP's for upland birds how do you train dogs on turkey?

In the offseason we start them off by letting them have wings, feet and tailfans to keep that scent in their mind.
We'll drag a wing or fan around the yard and tie it up off the ground out of their reach then turn them out and let them track it down and hopefully bark at it.
Best training is hunting them with an older dog and get them in on a flush and best of all get them on a flopping bird.
