Title: New pups
Post by: barry on October 30, 2012, 04:03:18 PM
My buddy and I got these 2 pups this past weekend. They will be trained to flush turkeys.
They are English Setter/ Wachtelhund (German Spaniel) cross.

Here's the pups.

Got'em chewing on a wing already.  Never too early to start!

The German Spaniel is better known as Wachtelhund.  See the following link for more info on this breed...

In the offseason we start them off by letting them have wings, feet and tailfans to keep that scent in their mind.
We'll drag a wing or fan around the yard and tie it up off the ground out of their reach then turn them out and let them track it down and hopefully bark at it.
Best training is hunting them with an older dog and get them in on a flush and best of all get them on a flopping bird.
