I'm tossing around the idea of trading my Mossberg 835 in towards a 935. For those of you that have used them, is this a good idea or one I'll regret? My chokes will all transfer, my limbsaver recoil pad will transfer, and my adjustable fiber optic sights will transfer. From what I've heard, the 935's shoot like an 835, without all the punishment. But I've never even shot a 935 so I know nothing about them. I'd also like a barrel without ports b/c they are a pain to clean.
They both will pound you. LOL I have both and it a flip of the coin on what one is the best. Now I shoot the 935 with buckshot and duck hunting.
I've been thinking the same thing. Never shot a 935 either. Would like to try one out with a 26 inch barrel. I've got to think the recoil is at least a little better out of the auto.

I have both and I seldom shoot the 835 except to try a new choke or a new or different shotshell. I really like the 935. It's weighted toward the muzzle, I have a 26" barrel, and you do get some cheek slap with the light stock, even with 3" shells. I put a neoprene sleeve on mine and that helps a good bit. You might even want to consider a Cheek EEz pad to help some. Other than that, it's less punishing than the 835 and mine will cycle 2.75", 3" and 3.5" shells. Mine also has a much better trigger than my 835.
As far as patterning, they both pattern about the same, considering the differences you always see from one gun to another.
The 935 is not a light gun. It can get heavy in the turkey woods but that weight helps with recoil, so it's a bit of a trade off.
If I had to pick just one, I'd go with the 935.

Browning. Been through exactly what you are planning to do. Ended up with a Browning Silver.
i have patterned several 935's. they are very good guns and have proven themselves in the turkey woods time and again.
but if you are one for counting pellet holes at 40yds you might want to hang onto your 835.
