Title: The Supreme Court Cheeses Me Off.
Post by: redarrow on March 02, 2011, 02:17:42 PM
While I do not disagree with the Churches view of gay rights, I do not agree with anyone disrupting a funeral. Especially a soldier who has served his country.

"Phelps founded the church in 1955 and it has about 70 members made up mostly of his relatives."  Apparently a bunch of DB's no matter what their views are.  The sad irony is that they wouldn't be able to protest anything in many other countries let alone the funeral of one of the keepers of their freedoms.

It is one of the few times you have to stand aside and allow the constitution to work for something that is clearly mean spirited and way out-of-bounds.
But karma is a beast and what goes around will surely come around for these people.

I was glad to see that Justice Alito wrote in his opinion, that their actions were nothing more than hate speech and was overly cruel.

I say that we just turn a blind eye while them freedom bikers that give funeral protection take them folks to the wood shed.....

I'm employed as a funeral director and have had the misfortune of seeing the "West Boro Cult" protest two services of soldiers who gave their lives for all of us. Their actions, signs and the things they say are truly cruel to say the very least. The Patriot Guard Riders were the one shining light, they show up to shield the families from West Boro's hatred. They are an amazing group of dedicated, disciplined American hero's.

I think it sucks that it happened, but the court held true to the law.

Soldiers give the ULTIMATE sacrifice for the entire nation. They should have the ULTIMATE respects paid to them in death. The way to fix this is for someone to start a petition that would request your elected officials to put forth a bill of Amendment to the Amendment to protect our soldiers right. The power of the mob gets it done.

Bowbender and Savduck - dead on.  The Constitution doesn't just apply to what we agree with.  There's a lot of crap out there that millions have died for in defense of the right to spew it.

The court was right here. There message and means of conveying it are despicable in my opinion, but it is protected. I got the full opinion in an email this morning and will read it when I get some time, but this is consistant with the courts past rulings. The supreme court is extremely hesitant to chill any speech. Just as they have a right to say what they do; I have a right to sit here and express my opinion that I think they are despicable, hateful people.

Street cleaners with high pressure washers removing filth from the streets and curbs comes to mind as a peaceful solution. Too bad they use a loop hole for their insanity in our laws!

I don't understand why no one gets a standing form Restraing Order that can be used by the funeral homes for the families of our fallen to keep these idiots away.  Maybe ya'll can figure out what I'm trying to say.

The court ruled on the Constitutionality of their right to free speech, but they don't have to be within earshot of the families when they practice that right.  I have a 2nd amendment right to carry a firearm, but not within a school zone, inside a bank, or a liquor store, etc.  I really see no difference in the logical application of the law to the first 2 Rights in the Bill of Rights.

They may have free speech, but they should show respect for those who gave their lives!!!!  Legally, I can wear a thong but not right!!
