I was blessed to start Turkey hunting in the 70s. Had several mentors of note- Dempsey Cape, Roscoe Reams, Cliff Edwards and Arthur Truelove. All of them are gone now.
Arthur passed this week. He will be missed. Wore his blue Pointer overalls and a beat up camo hat.. Covered his legs and belly with a piece of burlap that he spray painted stripes on..
A true "3 yelps and put the call away " strategist. He killed hundreds of Gobblers. I learned a lot from him....God Speed Fats - Thank you!!!!

Nice tribute Nitro, I sure miss those old timers when they pass. They did it back when it was hard to do.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and mentor :cross2:
My condolences. :cross2: :cross2: :cross2:
Sorry to hear of his passing.
I lost my mentor 4 years ago when he was way too young.
I've had so many questions that I wish I had asked him.
For those of you that still have have hunting mentors, visit them often and absorb the knowledge that they have. One of these day YOU will be someone's mentor!
Sorry to hear this. I lost my mentor in 2009. Miss him alot. Prayers for all involved.

Tough news Andy. Hate to hear it.
Sorry for your loss.
You know, it's kind of like when my in-laws lost the last of their parents and they told me, "We're the eldest generation now; we're the roots of the family." You, Nitro, are the mentor now, and probably have been for quite a while, but you truly are now the one that all will look to instead of your mentors. Condolences on the loss but a thank you for the shoes you will continue to fill.
sorry to hear that.just talked to my 85 year old mentor tonight.he also was of the 3 yelps every 20 min. era.
Hate to read this news. Wish I would have had the pleasure to meet Mr. Truelove. RIP
