I like turning old pieces of wood into calls, and while I was in St. Louis for my Cardiologist visit, we spent the next day yard saleing. came upon a fellas house and bought a couple things including this African Carved figure for a buck. Made out of African Blackwood. We talked some and found out that he had done some artowrk for the NWTF back in the 80's, some silver work too, a Gobbler Bust necklace out of silver. He also did the artwork for some Federal Duck Stamps, so he invited me in his house to show me some work, man......he had stuff all over the walls, The young bird he did for the NWTF was hanging proudly in his living room, I asked you got any prints of this? Sure he says, and goes and grabs me three of them, and signs each one........free.......I told him I would make him a call for the prints ......wait till he sees what I did with his African bust.....4" of pure turkey....loud and awesome....can't wait to get back up there and deliver it to him.....
Thats awesome Pappy.

Nice story, Jack. :character0029:
Nice find and even better call!
Great Job Pappy...Thats awesome
I was visiting with pappy a couple weeks ago and had the pleasure of seeing this call. Pappy takes great pictures, but in this case, the picture does not indicate the beauty of the call. The details are simply great. I think he said it best, "Did some magic". Someone is going to get a great looking call to treasure forever.
That's a much nicer use for the blackwood than the original. ;D I went to Africa in 1999... before I started making calls. I wish I had the foresight to pick up some pieces of wood while there. Nice yard sale find. I'll have to keep my eyes out...
