Title: Cracked trumpet
Post by: Firewhatfire on July 12, 2012, 10:14:16 PM
I was working on a new one and it already had some pretty good checking in it.  So while I was turning it I had a piece pop loose. It was too good looking of piece to trash, so I finished it up.  Guess it can go in my collection or put it up for a trade with someone.

Thats a nice looking trumpet.  Shame it cracked on ya.

On another note, I myself would like to see some bigger pictures as its hard to see grain of wood, details, etc in your smaller pictures.

it's like a three leg dog, it will still hunt.

Just file those sharp edges down and your good to go. It just gives it a little more character.

One thing you can do is to cut off the area cracked, then turn an accent piece to fit the bell something that will set off the trumpet overall...or if you are creative, you could fill it with toquoise dust and small pieces, the trun it again. Or like Joe said, a lil' character never hurt a caller...that's for sure.

It will probably crack all the way up that grain

Some CA in the crack will stop the check from growing.
