Title: Best trumpet for $100 or less?
Post by: pcgobbler on June 22, 2012, 11:10:34 AM
Hey guys I'm looking to try a trumpet.  I have never used one before, but I would like to to get one in the next couple of months so I can practice quite a bit before next season, and possibly use it some if I am proficient enough with it.  Who makes the best sounding trumpet for under 100 bucks?  Also, are some callmakers trumpets easier for a beginnner to use than others?  I understand I will get some different responses, but if I could narrow it down to 3 or 4 in my price range, this would help me make a decision.  I like the look of some of the wood trumpets I have seen on here, but I am open to trumpets made of other materials as well.  Thanks, there is more knowledge about turkey hunting on this site than all turkey shows and magazines put together.

Just about all trumpet makers build a trumpet under $100.
Some good ones that I have tried: Brian Mero, Ernie Fetters, Mike Battey, Craig Scott, Matt McLain, Kehl Hilbert.

I have heard good things about many other trumpet makers here.  Give them a call and ask them to play one for you.

I just received my first ever trumpet call from Mero this week, made of cocobolo wood with the delrin mouthpiece. His call was $75 including shipping, and he threw in an instructional video just as a bonus. I had read on this forum somewhere that his call was one of the easiest to run, and that's really why I picked his call. I can't really tell you how it sounds yet b/c I'm new the to suction calls, but I'm aleady having fun annoying the wife while I try to figure it out.
