Title: need info.
Post by: SumToy on June 19, 2012, 03:17:25 PM
Ok folks I need some feed back.   I have had a lot of folks ask about 10ga chokes. So we are in the R&D room now.  What shells yall shoot the most.  This is all because of yall so we build this around you.  I may need a test dummy to shoot this stuff for me. LoL

I'm shooting Nitro's H210 2.5 oz in straight 7's. If ya need a BPS to play with I could ship mine.

I'd like to see what you can come up with for an SP-10 shooting the Fed. Hvywght #7 loads and the Magnum Blend load.

Hastings 675 and Pure Gold 680 are good lead chokes, but you can't find them, good lead numbers are hard to get with a ten gauge unless you handload heavy payloads. Fed heavyweight with the FC wad might do pretty well in a tight lead choke as well.  Finding a test Dummy should be easy !

I'd like to see a choke  that would pattern the 10ga HeviShot Magblends well.

The BPS will definitely thump your shoulder, but the SP-10's recoil will be less than most 12 gauges. :icon_thumright:

I have a Browning Gold 10.  It likes Nitro H210  4X5X7.   I am looking forward to trying your choke when they are available.  :turkey2:

How much with the 10 chokes run on price for the heavyweights? Are you you guys going to try the non ported route? Is like to see a .685 range non ported 2" extended for those feds. Hope Yall nail that down its a much needed choke. :icon_thumright:

We will not have ports.  You can only do so much with them.  A lot more to making a choke work.   A lot of time goes in the R&D to make them work.   We move things around and I like to play with multiple angles.  We going to start next week with them.  Think it is going to be fun.  Looking forward to see how much I can tear up.

So what's the guestimated price you think?

should not be much more then a 12ga choke.  I have always been the type that it is same amount of time and work to build a choke.  It don't matter if it goes in a $200 Moss 500 or a $10000 Perazzi.  :icon_thumright:  Now we may be a few bucks more because we will step up to a bigger choke OD if you want it the same as OD of barrel.

65 to 75

.685 non-ported did the best for me with the Fed. HW #6's through my gold  :OGturkeyhead: I think that would be a great place to start with the HW's, well see about the 7's after the heat passes  :turkey2:

William, have you come up with anything with the HW 6's and an SP-10?  Just checking as we have not heard from you in awhile.  Thanks, John

nitro 101L #4,5 And7 hevi shot is all I shoot. I have tried others but this is the best stuff I have ever fond. It is expensive but not near the price of a missed turkey! IMO!

We have not had any good weather to try them in. 95 to 100  or rain.    Now in the last test the 6 did better then the 7.

William,
Do you have any results yet on the sp10 and mag blend combo with your choke? Also, do you plan on trying a NEF 10 and mag blend combo? A lot of guys on here shoot single barrel 10's.
Thanks

Ok this was the mag blend.  It was 215 in the 10.  I like the looks of it.  The fed 7 I have are all over the place.  I am going back to the 6 to see if it is the shell.

What size choke??

This one was a 682.   I may bump it up some.  It looks like it may be two chokes.  A lot of times we have found that we get both shells to work out of the same choke.  I think I know what is going on with the Fed just got to build the choke and get good temps.

William, is that pattern with the MagBlends in a Rem. SP-10?  Just wondering.  I sure do like the pattern that you had with the HW6's.  John

This was the sp10.  The pic not do pattern good.  I looked at it this morn it is a small center mass.  I take one of gust the small part.

That's a pretty good pattern.  I got 220 in the 10" at 40 yards with my NEF 10ga and the HeviShot Magblends.  I had a .695 gobbling thunder in it.

William, anymore info about HW6 in the SP-10 with your chokes?  Am anxious to hear if you have come up with the same numbers that you had earlier.  Thanks, John

We have had rain or heat.  Just not real good temps to work on chokes.  I can shoot other stuff get a idea and know what they will do.  This is a new game so not know how they will change.

Dale I have missed something with it just got to look at it.  The numbers are high then low then so/so.   Looks to be choked to small but going to be hard to open up and get it to pattern.  Go a idea gust got to try it.

William, any more info about HW6 or HW7 with your chokes that you are experimenting with?  Sure would like to pattern your chokes before we get too much winter up here in the UP of Michigan.  Let us know. Thanks, John

Any update on you BPS 10 choke?  I need to purchase a choke for this spring.  Would prefer to shoot HW6 or 7.
