Hey guys i shot a bird here in Kansas this last weekend and i'm trying to decide if I should take it to the taxidermist or not. Here is the stats on the bird...21 lbs., 1 5/8 & 1 3/4 inch spurs and a 11 1/8 in beard. So what does everyone think, should i or should i not take it to the taxidermist.
That would be a Mountable bird by my standards. Fine bird, congrats.
I would. Any bird with 1 1/2 inch hooks or better is getting mounted for me.
Why worry with others opinions. If you think he's worthy of a mount go for it, you won't regret it.
Congrats on a good'un!
That's a great bird. But really a trophy comes in many shapes and sizes. There are many resons to mount a bird that has nothing to do with the size.
With that said, heck yea I would mount him. He's a monster. ;D
How many 1 3/4" spurred turkeys have you ever killed? How many have you seen? That should answer your question.
TRKYHTR
I think that you should absolutely mount it.... at my son-in-law's taxidermy shop (how far are you from Springfield, MO? :funnyturkey: ). I can get you a link if you'd like!
sounds like a good bird. post some pics
buddy
thats a booner for sure
spend the money and have that big boy in your den forever
you wont regret it :z-winnersmiley:
I would have to mount one with a 1.75 spur.
That's your call. I'm assuming it is your biggest bird to date. If you are ever going to have one mounted, that would be a good one and it may be a while before you get another one that big. A couple other things may factor into it though such as color--some birds are just prettier than others and also how bad his plumage was damaged when you shot him.
No pics - didn't happen!

guess it depends on what your wallet says! Congrats
Go for it. Congrats..
4 surrrreeeeeee!!!
hey guys thanks for the help. I think i am going to take it to a taxidermist. Hey turkey beard i sent you a message for the link to your taxidermist. Its not every day you shoot a bird that big.
I was actually hoping to shoot a big bird this year to take to the taxi because I really one one mounted but never got the chance on any giants, oh well saved me enough money to think about a new turkey gun
Message back at you. I'd post the link here but am unsure of the regulations. I will say that, with twins on the way in September, I'd sure like to keep that boy busy! ;D
I say go for it!! I killed a bird a few years ago that weighed 24 pounds and had 5 beards, I didn't mount it because it's spurs were only an inch. Regretted it since! I'll never get another bird with 5 beards.
I can guarantee you that if I ever shoot a bird with those size spurs and beard, I'm definitely taking it to a taxidermist. Congrats on an incredible bird!

x2 any thing that a person wants to mount is a trophy ... no matter how long the spurs or the beard....
I would
Do you really expect to shoot one bigger? Of course you should mount it!
Oh yeah that's worthy of a mount!
1 3/4" spurs is like a 190" whitetail. No doubt I would mount him.
Well i took him to the taxidermist on Saturday and he told me he had never seen one with hooks like that. I debated on how to have him done and decided to so him in a 3/4 strut gobbling. The taxidermist had one that he did on another bird and it was awesome looking, so thats why i decided on that pose. It will show his beard and hooks well. He told me probably around January is when he thought it would be ready. Will take pics then and put them on here.
