Title: Docter sights
Post by: Waddle Whacker on May 25, 2012, 09:11:39 AM
Anyone use these sights? I don't read much about them on here......maybe there's a reason. I am about to purchase a new sight, and was just curious if I should consider one.

They are popular in the competition handgun circuit and they make sone interesting mounts to fit pistol dovetails.  The are commonly used as backup sights mounted on top of ACOG battle sights.  I know of no reason they would not make a good turkey shotgun sight but I also know of nothing that makes them any better than other similarly designed sights.

I personally use Ultradot LT sights on my handguns.  They have a little bigger sight window and the battery can be replaced without removing the sight.  But unlike the Doctor, they require a rail for mounting.

They are high quality red dots made in Germany before other companies made similar looking devices .  The price has dropped since the new version (III, IV?) which isn't available here in the US.  I'm considering buying one for a new project gun build based on the Savage 220-A 20 gauge.  As discussed, they were partnered with Trijicon's ACOG sights.  That should tell you something about their quality.  I see them listed for $250 at different sites.  On the downside, any warranty work or repairs must be done in Germany unless one buys from DocterUSA at a considerably higher price.
