Title: Another great morning here in NY...
Post by: WNY Bowhunter on May 13, 2012, 11:57:08 AM
Took a couple of buddies out this morning on their father-in-laws farm that is absolutely covered up in birds.  It's the first time that they've been able to hunt this season with their hectic farming schedule.  To make a long story short...we were completely surrounded by turkeys and gobblers sounding off everywhere.  The only time that I've ever heard so much turkey talk is on TV.  My Halloran Twisted Sister coaxed this mouthy 2 year old and a jake out into the field @ 6:10 and my buddy was able to bust his head.  He was super excited as it was his first turkey...20 lbs, 8 3/4" beard and 7/8" spurs.

My uncle killed this bruiser about a half hour later a couple hundred yards up the field...21.5 lbs, 10" beard and 1 5/16 & 1 3/8" spurs.

I called another one in later in the morning across the road but the foliage was too thick to get a shot and he went around us and headed the other way.  Seems like the hunting is getting better and the gobblers are really responding to the calls.

Congratulations to all the successful hunters!  Keep after them, after busting that first one it is usually downhill.  Good Luck!

I think what has made the difference in luck is I switched back to my old "turkey killin" hat.  I know that I'll be wearing it for the remainder of the season... ;).

It is amazing what a "lucky" hat can do for you!

Can I borrow your hat next spring? I'll send it back before your season starts. I need all the help I can get. Glad to see the tides turning for you.

You put a couple of good birds on the board for the team, so I'm thinking that you'll do alright next spring without it.   ;)

Never mess with the turkey mojo!  It will come back to bite you.  Have learned this lesson.  I am not a superstitious person, but I follow a routine to a tee during hunting season.  Was wanting a new hat, one with the mouth call holders, but was not sure about getting it and now I know for sure I am sticking with my old one.  Call me crazy!!!  ;D

Another one of my uncles finally connected this morning on the bird that he's been chasing all week:  19 lbs, 1 1/8 & 1 3/16" spurs and  10.5" beard.  Now, that's a paintbrush!!!

I had two gobbling on the roost within 60 yds. and a deer started snorting and they shut up.  Don't know if they ever flew down or not?
