Got a report from my buddys cousin who runs the family ranch in SW Kansas where I am heading this weekend. He said there are very few birds, looks like they did not handle the drought from last year very good. We usually see 50-70 birds on the ranch over a weekend, this spring he recalls seeing 4 birds, not good for 11,500 acres. Well, we will still be chasing them this weekend, looks like we might be spending more time at the prairie dog town that we anticipated. After hearing news went hunting this afternoon close to home. Had a small tom work up to 30 yards, if he would have raised my score I would have taken him, but I let him walk. After them again in the morning.
keep at it.
I am glad you guys are still at it. All you need is 1 big bird in Kansas.
John
What part of Kansas you in? Im headed to Waterville and Marysville on Sunday then to Red Cloud Neb on Wednesday..
I live in Eudora, 7 miles east of Lawrence. Ranch we are going to this weekend is outside of Coldwater. Shouldn't have any problems finding birds in the area you are headed, numbers seem to be good around there.
I used to live in Lawrence. Moved to Overland Park for a few years before moving back home to Georgia. Beautiful countryside out that way. BIG birds out that way also. Best of luck in chasin'!

There are a lot of big birds in the area. Lawrence can be a lot of fun, but I would have moved out of there also, the hippy contingent is way too strong!
It was a bit of a party town when I lived there. Between there and Westport, I think I could have sent myself to K.U. for a doctorate on the cash I wasted in the bars.
First blood drawn on a KS Rio! Can't believe how small they are compared to the easterns back around home. My buddy shot this time, now its my turn.
