I just returned from delivering this call to the landowner where I do about 50% of my hunting. He is a wonderful man of 70 and does chainsaw art as a hobby (and darn good also) and owns a small cabin on the land where I stay. I wanted it to be primarily all local domestic woods, in this case cherry over yellow poplar with sumac end blocks, just love the looks of this combo, but added just a hint of padauk for spacers and inlay to kick it up a notch. I am really partial to the old barns and farm steads and this is my favorite to date. I did a couple that are similar, but I particularly like the composition in this one best. The Owl is something I have wanted to do again and there seem to be an abundance at this land and Art, that's his name, speaks of them often so I thought it fitting to add a barred owl on the right rail. He was tickled and was thinking of waiting for the weekend, but is now inspired to go out with us opening morn and try and get some blood on this call. That made my day.
