Just got in from scouting a new little piece of ground that I picked up and easily heard 150+ gobbles from the 8-10 birds that were hammering around me!!! They went nonstop from 5:20 until they flew down @ 6:00. Some hens started yelping in the woods and then things quieted down...at least for a few minutes until the crows got them fired up again. I was hoping that they'd come out into the planted oat field so I could get a look at them but they seemed content to stay back in the woods and gobble. I could tell that one was a jake for sure, but I'm certain that the bird that was right across from me gobbling in the roost was a longbeard. He had was roosted right with the hens just off of the field. I'm thinking that it might pay off to get out there super early tuesday morning and set up B-Mobile where he can see him from the tree and try to get him to come out into the field to issue an early morning butt whoopin' before the hens can get to him. Little does he know that it'll be his butt getting kicked... ;).
Man, I can't wait to get back out there with a gun in my hands... :z-guntootsmiley:!!!
Good Luck! Cannot wait to see the best Western New York Gobbler on the ground! Sounds exciting!
