When will I learn to take off my gloves before taking a leak!! :angry9: Also got some on the corner of my eye and ear.
What's the best thing for poison ivy?? I always use Calamine spray but I'm thinking about getting a prescription from my Dr.
Any thoughts?
when i was coon hunting a lot i kept the crap. my hounds would have the oil on them and transfer it right to me.
i used Bleach from time to time also ivy dry.
Buy a product called Tecnu, it washes off ivy oil before it spreads into your skin. Of course, you have to be proactive, and use the product early to prevent the irritation.

Best thing is to stay out of it. Barring that, yes I carry disposable wet towel packs called IvyX in my vest. If I think I came into contact with it I wash the area down immediately.
If you have it near your eyes that is nothing to play with. See your doctor about giving you a Methylprednisolone shot or a Medrol dose pack.
.........Methylprednisolone shot or a Medrol dose pack.
That would be my suggestion as well. It works wonders for me.Get both.

The shot and the dose pack is the route I would take as well.
Luckily, I'm not allergic to the stuff. We use a barrier cream offshore to keep harmful oils off of our skin. You might be able to get some of that if you know you are gonna be in the vicinity of the stuff.
Whenever I know that I have been exposed to poison ivy, when I get home I fill the tub with water and two cups of Clorox. Soak in that for a while, then rinse off in the shower. Works well on chiggers too
A friend of mine used the wrong leaves as a toilet paper substitute once with horrifying results!
Like others said if it's in or near an eye go to the doctor.
For me I've found that A/D diaper rash ointment gives a lot more relief to a minor break out than calamine. I found that out when I got it at the beach once and that was all anyone had at the condo.
A product called ZANFEL get it at drugstore over the counter. Looks like tooth paste. You squeeze a little in your hand a wet it, rub on the effected area and scratch away. OMG it feels so good cause the medication had a rough texture like it has sand in it. The next day you will wonder where the poison ivy went because it will be gone!!!
Shower using dawn or some similar degreasing dish soap that will cut the poison ivy oil off your skin. I always take a shower as soon as I get home from being in the woods, and if I know I got into poison ivy, I will use dawn soap.
Keeps most of it off. I still get some on my hands and wrists from time to time, but nothing major.
Get the shot.

:agreed: Same stuff I use. Seems to work better than any thing else. You might want to see a doctor though if you got it next to your eyes. That would be my biggest worry. Good luck.

This. I've battled it for years and have done the steroid packs, Tecnu wash, you name it. This stuff is pricey, but cost is not a concern when you need relief from a bad case of poison ivy. I always have some on hand.
Get ya some oatmeal bath. Make a paste of it and rub on the are works within two to three applications.
I recommend the shots. Supposedly you can only get but so many of the shots, but they really help once you've caught it. About once or twice a year I get it so bad I have to go to the doctor. Last time was in the fall after hanging a treestand in a tree with vines all over it. I had it up both arms, neck, face. It's rough when it gets to the places you mentioned. I've tried the Tecnu. It helps some.
I just can't avoid it. I like to hunt, fish, etc, and the poison is out there.
The prednisone pills are OK. They work just as well as the shot. It's just that you have to take them for weeks weaning off of it.
Zanfel is the best product i've tried. Pricey, but worth every penny.
Thanks guys! The rash doesn't seem too bad yet so I'm going to give the Zanfel a try. It says on their website it can go on your face and genitals so I'm covered hahaha
Shaw it will work, I am very allergic to poison ivy, poison oak and sumac. My ears will swell up, I look like Mickey Mouse LOL!!!
I keep ZANFEL with me even if I go out of state hunting. It is a little expensive but it is worth it!!!
Guess I'm one of the lucky ones, I have never had it.
Dang you guys weren't kidding.....$45 for 1 ounce!!
It will last a long time Shaw cause it only takes a little at a time.

Picking some up today - I'm over it!! Wife said she has a 25% off CVS coupon so that helps some! CVS also has a clone product of Zanfel sitting right next to it....anyone use it or should I stick with the original?
Again, thanks :you_rock:
Jewel weed soap. Works every time.
WOW!! I guess I'm lucky! I got it one time when I was a kid really bad. I had it everywhere and it was headed to my lungs. I had it in my mouth and everything tasted salty for a month after from the blistering. I had to take shots/pills for awhile LOL. Since then I've never got it again. My mom and dad said you'll never get it again because of having it that bad. I guss they were right.
Good luck to those of you that have to fight it, it sucks
Zanfel was a miracle drug at first. It seemed to get less effective as time passed for me. But I haven't tried it in a while.
Thought I was the only who got it on his Johnson from the gloves...
I GOT to remember to take 'em off to pee now! :help: :TooFunny:
