Post by: kevind on April 24, 2012, 02:10:05 PM
Hey guys...trying to save some money and figure out what the best choke combos are for the tightest patterns possible in TSS 8s & 9s...please list your gun and choke name & constriction.  Thanks for the help!

Rem 870, 21" bbl, shooting TSS 9s and 98s:
IC .675 non ported, no wad catchers or Rem SF... pretty much patterned the same, over 300 in the 10 and 20" circles

thanks for the reply....I am shooting a Browning BPS 28 inch barrel.  I hear that a .665-.670 is too tight.  Is it better to go without a ported choke with the TPS wad or does it matter?  I hear that some chokes with ports will hang some of the wad shooting the 18 g/cc shot???  What's yall's opinion?  Is a Jelly Head .670 dangerously tight or just blows the pattern?  Thanks....

Personally, I've had better results out of a non ported choke and I use the TPS wad. I also have a Win 1300 using a non ported choke, I think it is a .680.

The TSS, especially the 9s tend to do well in more open chokes. The .665 is the standard for most HTL shot in a Remmy but I went with the .675 for the TSS after testing a few constructions.

Seems like about 92% of bore.

I shoot MB 835 with and IC .710, and going to have a PG .720 made.

Doesn't seem to.  My IC does not have wad catchers, just porting.  My wads have always looked like you could shoot them again, too.

One of the other members here, whos hunting in Nebraska right now has the same gun as yours and was getting high #'s with a .680 Sumtoy choke (nonported) using TPS wads.

But I don't think he was loading TSS 8's or 9's.  Maybe 9's, but in a duplex I think.

Anyways......if you want to see his patterns, look in this section for a thread started by "rtsj".  He's got several pattern pics posted.

I use a non ported Carlson. 680 in my citori.

Get around 270s the with the 8s. I would look in that constriction. Good for a 30 dollar choke.

I started with a .665 pure gold then a .670 pure gold and then the. 680 mentioned.

Numbers went up every time I opened it up. Never shot the nines on paper.
