Title: Federal HeavyWeight is the real deal!
Post by: PALongspur on April 22, 2012, 06:17:22 PM
Recently tried some HW 7's out of my SBEII and all I can say is WOW!  :you_rock:

I've been shooting Winchester XRHD 6's with good results, normally getting 190-200 in 10". The HW gave me 170-180 but a much denser hunting pattern. The other thing that struck me was the fact that the Federals didnt just tip the patterning board over, they slammed it to the ground with authority! Can't wait to try these out on some longbeards!

What choke did you shoot them out of? I've got a SBE II, and was considering giving them a try, just for the heck of it.

Yes they are. I'm shooting the HW 7s out of a 20ga and couldn't be happier. I could only imagine what they will do to a bird running 1300 fps out of a 12ga.

I've got a wright's no. 3 (.650) that I think I'll try them in if I can find a box locally. I'm thinking they will shoot pretty decent.

The other great thing about the Fed HW is the pattern stays together much longer down range.  Shooting the Fed HW 6's I only loose about 40 pellets in a 10" going from 40 to 50 yds.  Once I put a truglo sight on my shot gun and got the load sighted in I haven't had any issue with POA/POI.  I shoot the Trulock .650 out of a Stoeger M3500.

I am looking to try some in my single shot 20.  Hope to get it set up during the off-season this year.

X2. They'll definitely make one take a dirt nap! Best factory load available for the 20 IMO, but unfortunately I've never been able to get em lined out in the 12.
