I have a question. When your out runnin and gunnin and you get a hen to answer you do ya'll set up and try to call her in and hope a gobbler follows her in? I always do but most times it seems that i end up wasting time by calling in hens that are alone. Im sure most of you have more turkey huntin experience than I do and I would like to hear some opinions on this thanks
I don't run and gun, but If I did I'd try to call in any and all turkeys that answered my calling. You never know!
IMO you are better off setting up and trying to call her in to make sure she doesn't have a gobbler with her. It is always a plus to not spook any birds in your area gobbler or hen.
I would call to her, 1 she may have a tom, 2 she may talk enough to get a tom fired up and excited to see two hens that are talking. Last year I talked with one for 5 minutes and that got a tom going and he went home with us. She was a live decoy.
Try and coppie the Boss hen, and get her to respond to your calling, Literally try and pick a fight with her, as she comes and hopefully bring a Tom in tow. They are the Smartest Birds in the Wood, in my opinion.
Hoot
Thanks guys
I always sit tight and call her in just for the fact that if she does not have a tom with her I know have a live decoy that is hot and calling. I have called in so many hens I cant count but have never had a tom in tow. I think if you have a hot hen calling she cant find mr big either.
