shooting @ 40+ do the mag blends really carry that much more energy then a load of straight #6. At the range I can get almost 50 more pellets in the #6 than the mags so which am I better off with.
I would stick with the 6's.
Someone posted that the "extra velocity" from the magblends increased penetration by around .15" in ballistic gel I think.
At 40 they both carry enough energy to dump a tom; just use what you feel most comfortable with.
I would stick with #6 . 50 more pellets is a good thing .
Stay with the SIXES!!!
I think the blends are more of a sales gimmick. ive shot both straight loads and the blends they both shoot great. just go with what patterns best and what your confident with. good luck
6's!

agreed the blends were made for the people who weren't convinced that #7 hevi would kill even thou the mag blends are mostly made up of 7's.
The 6's give plenty of knock down and if they pattern that much better stick with them for sure.

X2!
thanks for all the input :z-winnersmiley: #6's
I tried the magblends this year and in the limited testing I did, it seemed that the 7's carried the pattern. I to got better numbers from straight 6's.

Straight 6s. And remember, any load you get from EM is a blend. It's easy to get into the habit of thinking that straight sixes from EM are really straight sixes. I bought a bunch of H13 3-1&5/8-6 shells the other day (real cheap) and cut them all open to rob the shot for handloads, so I saw all the shot. There were pellets from size 4 to size 8. The distribution was like a bell curve, mostly sixes, with about 1/4 of the pellets larger than 6s and 1/4 smaller. And yes, I believe the magblends are all about marketing.
Interesting . So we all are shooting some sort of blend anyway with EM ammo . ?
