Title: How far will he travel
Post by: Woodsman4God on April 21, 2012, 09:18:38 AM
Hi Guys,

I was heading up north to the cabin yesterday and not far from some state land I have hunted before my son spotted a lone gobbler with a nice beard. The birds have not fired up yet. I know he will be looking for hens. If he is alone now could it just have been a roamer or do you think he will be nearby?

you just never know...he could be within a quarter mile or two miles...depending on the hens and how dominant he is in the local pecking order. It would be worth an early morning listen though.

Woodsman, I have been watching some birds up by me and I have one in the same situation, all alone.   The birds have been fired up and breeding for over a month.  The one that I have walking by himself is a smaller tom and he looks like he had his  handed to him.  He is missing a few feathers and very leary of my gobbler call.  One morning I hit the gobbler call and he laid down in the grass to hide.  But he is still hanging around.   Good luck on your hunt and let me know what ya get tomorrow.
