Title: 18.5" 20 ga bagged me a Kentucky double-beard at 35 yards
Post by: KY_Mike on April 16, 2012, 09:17:46 AM
Built up this little 870 Youth Compact Jr. over the winter and finally got to take 'er out Saturday (opening morning.)  It patterns every bit as well as my 12 gauge at 40 yards, so I wasn't worried, even with the 18.5" barrel.

I Cerakoted everything on it, including the bolt, (after patterning) in Tungsten Gray and Graphite Black to make it weather-proof and it's a sweet little gun now.  Very nice to pack and dropped this guy like a hammer at 35 yards.

I may be looking to unload my SuperMag down the road, I'm sold on the 20!

[edit] I guess I should mention that I've lurked here for years, and this 20 Gauge Forum is a LOT of the reason I decided to give 'em a try.  Finally had a reason to register and post.

21lbs, .750" spurs, 9.5" & 7.25" beards.
Remington Superfull HeviShot choke and some older 3" Rem HeviShot #6 shells.

Great looking bird and gun. I just started using a 20 this year myself and can't say a bad word about them. Light, compact, and deadly. Good luck with the rest of your season!

That's awesome! What kind of pattern does that 18.5" barrel throw at 40.

Honestly, I haven't shot many patterns for count since I have a limited number of these shells, but IIRC it averaged right around 100 in 10" target at 40... I'm not up on the numbers chasing game, but that seems plenty good for me.

That's a good looking little rig. I've got a smith that owes me a favor so I'm probably gonna have him cerakote my 870. Looking at OD green.

Thanks guys.  Phillip, other than the coating, the gun is completely stock.  It's a new model with a 12" LOP (without spacers, 13" with) and 18.5" Remchoked barrel:
