Title: Mueller Quick Shot Auto Brightness Question
Post by: Gobblestopper on April 13, 2012, 10:42:19 PM
A new Mueller Quick Shot just landed on my doorstep and I was wondering if any Mueller users could possibly chime in on how the Automatic Brightness feature is supposed to work.

On mine, and mind you I'm only doing a little in the house testing right now,
(and yes I'm double sure the gun is unloaded cause the wife has only asked me to check it again six times in the last 15 minutes)
Point the gun in a low light direction on Automatic and it basically turns off completely.

Point towards a somewhat dimly lit area and I can barely make out the retical and it certainly isn't anywhere near as bright as the Manual settings.

Point toward a light that is on and it does not increase the brightness enough to see the retical over the light from a lamp or ceiling light.

Shine a small flashlight right into the sensor and it lights the retical as bright as the #10 manual setting.

That said, does the Automatic Brightness really only work when you have bright sunlight shining directly on the front of the sight or what?

Sounds like you are overwhelming the design with artificial lighting, just a guess.
I would be more concerned about your wife watching too much of the liberal media and her concern about firearms. Wait till you can play with it outside then all your neighbors can worry if its loaded, haha

I have found that the Auto feature works better outside. In early morning, low light situations, the retical is not bright enough for me so I manually set it. Once the sun has come up better, I can switch back to Auto and it is lighted just fine.

Thanks Fullchoke,

Guess I was having a bit of "kid with a new toy" kicking in and wasn't quite sure what to expect with the Auto setting.  Now with some sunlight in the picture, I see that it really is more of a daylight feature and not really intended for low light conditions.  Headed out for the dial-in this AM.
