Title: 1187 - barrel shortened
Post by: FL-Boss on April 12, 2012, 11:36:47 PM
I have a 26in barrel.. thinking about getting it shortened to 23in or so. What would a gunsmith charge for this roughly ?

Not sure what the industry standard is but I am pretty sure Sumtoy on here charges $35.

I had Sumtoy cut my barrel down, but mine was 30".  Had it cut as close to 26" as possible, didn't want to go over 26, so he cut it right in front of a vent rib which made it 25.5" I think.

William did a good job and re-threaded it for Rem chokes.  But with yours already @ 26", I agree with the others......leave it along if it already is set for screw-in chokes.  You've got the perfect length.

You could always buy a shorter barrel if their out there.

Have talked to a few choke mfgs and they say 26-28" is the perfect length for scatterguns...
